There’s
nothing wrong with wanting those flabby arms and protruding
tummy to disappear before you walk down that aisle. After
all, a girl’s wedding day is supposed to be perfect-
the happiest day in her life. Being so, it is imperative
to add ‘losing weight’ to your wedding plans.
Although the wedding preparations may be
strenuous- aso –ebi,
souvenirs, i.vs, etc; you must remember to set aside time
to take care of yourself, after all, you are one of the
chief celebrants of the day. Here are some steps to help
you do that, and fast too.
· Set your goal early. At least 3 months to the
wedding. You’ll be better able to make a realistic
weight loss plan if you know how much weight you want to
loose in the given amount of time. Ten percent weight loss
in six months is reasonable and achievable.
· Get a medical checkup before embarking
on any weight loss program. Blood pressure check is mandatory.
Seek your doctor for advice and any problems you may/ may
not have while exercising.
· Identify your weaknesses -
do you eat fast food at lunch daily? Are carbonated drinks
irresistible?
Find
the weakness and throttle it. It does not own you. You
are stronger than some silly little craving that wants
to knock you off your path to success.
· Eat less, but eat more often. If possible, eat 4-5 small meals a day. This helps your
metabolism and blood
sugar to stay level as well. Eat less within 6 hours of
your bed time. You're less likely to burn the calories
closer to your bed time. It's fine to eat a large breakfast
and lunch because your body will be working on burning
those calories for the whole day. Large dinners are likely
to go unburned and converted into fat.
· Do not skip breakfast. If you
don't have time to prepare breakfast, buy healthy breakfast
on the go.
It is important to eat breakfast to jump start your metabolism
and give you energy for the day. Otherwise you will probably
end up falling back on unhealthy foods and drinks during
the day.
· Eat healthy snacks when you feel
hungry between meal times. Healthy snacks would be things
high in fibre,
fruits and vegetables. Avoid high sugar and high calorie
snacks. This will help you get nutrients as well as help
lower your appetite so you won't overeat during meals.
· Eat slowly and chew more. Take
time to enjoy your meals and you'll not be tempted by
a second helping.
Also, chewing more will ensure you get the most out of
all the food and it will be digested faster. The more you
chew, the more your appetite will be satiated.
· Drink more water every day. Not drinks, not juice,
WATER! It'll make sure you're hydrated as well as cut down
on your hunger levels and force you to get a little bit
more exercise (trips to the water dispenser and bathroom).
If you're a heavy soda drinker, permit yourself to only
one diet soda per day, maximum. Just one extra soda each
day can add 15 pounds. You’ll get the bonus of great
looking clear skin for the d-day. Alcohol may only be permitted
on your bridal shower.
· Exercise. Yes this dreaded word is inevitable.
Even if the wedding preparations are so cumbersome that
you can’t get into a gym, regular aerobics at home,
skipping, swimming will do. Thirty minutes to one hour
daily workout will reap bountifully.
· Finally, get encouragement and support from your
spouse-to-be, family and friends. They’ll help keep
you determined and focused.
When you have successfully completed these
steps, you can go get your wedding dress, which should
be about two
sizes smaller by now. I bet you’ll be looking good
and feeling great as you say ‘I do’.
